On June 14, 2018, 125 Community Health Workers (CHWs), Promotoras(es) de Salud (PdS), academicians, healthcare partners, a variety of state agencies, non-profit organizations, and other key stakeholders attended the third Kansas Community Health Worker Symposium at the Wichita State University Rhatigan Student Center in Wichita, Kansas. Overall feedback from participants was very positive. Funding for the conference was made possible by the Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE), Amerigroup, REACH HealthCare Foundation, Sunflower Foundation, Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City, Health ICT, United Health Care, and United Methodist Health Ministry Fund.
The conference began at 8:30 am with the welcome from Ryan Lester, Director of the Bureau of Health Promotion at KDHE. Broderick Crawford, Executive Director of NBC Community Development Corporation, acted as the Master of Ceremonies. Participants were then able to attend two of fifteen breakout sessions and the opening plenary, coalition meeting, and the next steps planning sessions.
